Colombian narco jet loaded with 460 1/2 kilos of cocaine forced to land in Mexico
A jet loaded with more than a half ton of cocaine was seized in the southeastern Mexico state of Campeche after it was detected illegally entering the country’s airspace.
Campeche governor Laysa Sansores said the narco jet was traveling from Colombia and was picked up by the country’s air surveillance system Saturday.
Two Air Force jets and three helicopters were dispatched from a base along Mexico’s southern border and pursued the drug trafficking aircraft, according to the Ministry of National Defense.
The jet eventually landed on a field located 49 miles east of the Campeche municipality of Miguel Hidalgo.

The cocaine was split into 38 plastic bags containing 460 1/2 kilos that has been shipped from Colombia
Security forces were awaiting on the ground to arrest the jet’s crew. However, the individuals took off running and disappeared into a forest area.
Soldiers searched the jet and recovered 38 plastic bags that were labeled ‘VIP’ and contained 460 1/2 kilos of cocaine.
“I am proud of the intelligence work of the Mexican Army and the coordination of (Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office) and the (Campeche State Attorney General’s Office), which enabled the detection, interception and seizure of an air craft with half a ton of drugs from Colombia,” Sansores tweeted.

It was the second jet intercepted by the Mexican military this month.
On August 5, a small jet with 136 kilos of cocaine from South America was intercepted and forced to land in the southern state of Chiapas.
A group of drug traffickers awaiting the shipment fled as they spotted the military arriving near the landing spot. No arrests were made.
On August 6, security forces intercepted a speedboat with 1,600 kilos of cocaine in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the state of Michoacán.
Three suspects were taken into custody for trafficking the massive shipment, which the Ministry of National Defense said had been sent from either Colombia or Ecuador.
