Fans slam ‘parasitic’ Glazers who have taken a staggering £1.1bn out of Man Utd

The Glazer family have taken an eye-watering £1.1billion out of Manchester United since they bought the club in 2005 – leaving fans furious.

United supporters are no strangers to protesting against their American owners, but there has been renewed pressure on the family to sell up after the team’s terrible start to the season. Erik ten Hag’s side are rock bottom of the Premier League after two games and two defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

Fans staged a protest before United’s opening day defeat against the Seagulls – and figures posted on Twitter by the Swiss Ramble make it easy to see why.

They estimate that the Glazers have taken a whopping £1.1billion out of the 13-time Premier League champions over the last 17 years. That includes a colossal £743million in interest payments on the money they borrowed to buy the club all those years ago.

Debt repayments account for another £147million, while owners’ dividends come in at £166million. It has also been suggested that directors could have been paid £55million since the Glazers’ bought the club, on top of another £23million taken out of the club in “management fees.”

The actions of the Glazer family are in stark contrast to the owners of Manchester City, who have invested £684million of their own money into the club over the same time period.

The figures have left United fans furious, including one who quote-tweeted the findings and said: “A thread on how parasitic, crippling & dysfunctional Glazer ownership continues to be. I don’t expect rival fans to have much sympathy – I get it’s hilarious we’re doing so badly – but it’s objectively messed up that any football club can be used & squeezed of funds in such a way.”

A different United fan concurred, saying: “This is Man Utds money not the Glazers they do not invest to take money out, parasites and so are all these associated with them.” As a third person said: “Glazers are leeches and parasites who don’t want this club to succeed.”

United take on Liverpool in their third Premier League match next Monday, with fans expected to stage another protest against their American owners.
