Shocking footage shows drink driver four times over the limit swerving at 90mph on motorway
Shocking footage shows a drink driver swerving wildly between lanes at up to 90mph on a rain-soaked motorway.
The motorist was four times over the limit while behind the wheel of a 4×4 car on the M1 when he was chased down by West Yorkshire traffic officers last January.
A dramatic dashcam video taken from a pursuing police car shows the driver veering from lane to lane in treacherous conditions.
The car hit speeds of 90mph, barrelling across three lanes before driving along the hard shoulder – just avoiding a devastating collision with other vehicles.
Once police brought the vehicle to a safe stop, the handcuffed driver was found to have 145mcgs of alcohol in his body per 100ml – compared to the legal limit of 35mcgs.

Following the arrest, chief inspector Claire Patterson, from West Yorkshire Police, said there was ‘always an alternative’ to driving while drunk.
He said: ‘It is easy to go over the limit having drinks at a friend’s BBQ or soaking up the sun in a beer garden.
‘Our advice is to plan ahead and think about how you are going to get home. There is always an alternative to driving whilst under the influence.
‘At the very least you face losing your licence and potentially your livelihood if you are caught drink or drug driving, but the cold, hard reality is that drink and drug driving does kill.
‘Our officers see the catastrophic aftermath of the mentality of “I’ll be ok to drive.”
‘Please don’t let us be knocking on the door of your loved one, all for the sake of taking drugs or having a few drinks.’
The reckless driver was banned from driving for three years and ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
He also had to undergo alcohol abstinence, pay £180 in court costs and was briefly fitted with an electronic tag.
