Adrien Rabiot’s mum ‘demanded pay on par with Bruno Fernandes’ before talks collapsed

Manchester United’s pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot looks to be over after talks collapsed with his tough negotiating mum, Veronique.

The Red Devils have been in the market for a central midfielder with Scott McTominay and Fred coming under fire for recent performances. However, according to The Sun, Rabiot will not be the man to replace him due to Veronique’s wage demands.

Veronique wanted Rabiot on par with Bruno Fernandes – who earns £240,000-per-week and is one of the top earners at United. It’s not the first time that Veronique has ended talks with clubs due to her demands: most notably Barcelona and Tottenham.

There were numerous incidents with Veronique when Rabiot plied his trade for PSG.

When he was 15, Rabiot was invited on PSG’s trip to Qatar in 2012, but he never travelled after the club refused to allow Veronique with him on the tour. A few years later, security was called on Veronique after she waited in the car park to confront Lauren Blanc.

When on loan at Toulouse, head coach Alain Casanova admitted he rejected Veronique’s request to be allowed to attend every first-team training session.

United’s midfield options are now dwindling with Rabiot falling through and Frenkie de Jong seemingly off the table.

The Red Devils have been linked with Casemiro and long-term target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – but with time running out Erik ten Hag’s side could be left thin on the ground.
