BREAKING Huge plumes of smoke engulf London Bridge as 40 firefighters tackle blaze
A roaring fire has broken out at London Bridge forcing multiple evacuations as it blackens the sky above with smoke.
A total of 70 firefighters have descended on the terrifying blaze on Union Street, in Southwark between two of the capital’s busiest commuter hubs of London Bridge and Waterloo East stations.
According to a Twitter user who has photographed the huge plumes of smoke, trains have stopped running in the area until the fire has been safely extinguished.
They described the inferno as a “huge car park fire underneath the tracks”.
Station Commander Wayne Johnson, who is at the scene, said: “The blaze is producing heavy smoke and those living or working in the local area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
“Trains to and from London Bridge are affected and several buildings have been evacuated.”
Video footage recorded from a nearby road shows the thick smoke pouring out of the flames with frightening velocity.
