Contract decision three years ago ‘costing Man Utd potential new recruits’
Manchester United’s decision to hand David de Gea a £350,000-per-week contract back in 2019 continues to impact their transfer dealings.
United placed De Gea on the mega-money wages after a string of great performances for the Red Devils. However, according to The Telegraph, that set a precedent in the squad, who all believed they should be on similar wages.
More importantly for United, the deal has also impacted their ability to manoeuvre in the transfer market, with new signings well aware of the clubs’ wage structure. The report also states that United have the third highest wage bill in the Premier League.

United have been frantically scrambling around in the transfer market after their poor start to the season.
The Red Devils have lost their opening two clashes with Brighton and Brentford, leaving Erik ten Hag’s side stranded at the foot of the table. Even the task of facing an under-firing Liverpool side seems to be a tough one for United next week.
And United look set to head into the fixture without any more new additions to the squad.
