Queen’s ‘favourite’ relatives might be cut off by Prince Charles to ‘slim down’ family

A revamp of the Royal Family could take place once Prince Charles becomes king.

The heir apparent is apparently willing to cut off some of the Queen’s “favourites” in an attempt to “slim down” the family, according to some royal experts, My London reports.

Charles has been the heir apparent for over 69 years, the longest-waiting heir ever and at his current age of 73, he will also become the oldest British monarch to take the throne.

According to biographer Matthew Dennison, he has suggested that when Charles inevitably becomes king, the royal family under Charles will be cut down to just a few important members, including the likes of his son Prince William and Kate Middleton.

He said: “Prince Edward, seemingly a bit wet and a tad irritating to the rest of us, was always his parents’ favourite.”

Another royal expert, Richard Palmer, discussed whether Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex could be members of the family that Charles looks to cut: “The other big question mark is over Edward and Sophie. Many people had assumed that they would have a role.

“When they got married, it was made clear that the Queen’s intention was for Edward to inherit the title of Duke of Edinburgh, after his father’s death.”

But he concluded, “It is, by no means, certain what’s going to happen.”

Royal correspondant Duncan Larcombe said in 2021 that: “Sophie Wessex has emerged as the Queen’s unlikely ‘rock’ as the monarch adjusts to life without Prince Philip.

“Prince Edward’s wife has—according to sources—made it her personal mission to ensure Her Majesty is fully supported by the family.

“Since the Duke’s death in April, Sophie has driven the 10 miles from her Bagshot Park home to Windsor Castle every few days and most weekends to spend socially-distanced time with Her Majesty.

He adde: “And on days she can’t get there in person, the Duchess of Wessex has made a point of calling her mother-in-law at least once a day.”

Despite the speculation, the future of Edward and Sophie look to be within the Royal Family due to Sophie’s dedication to be there for the Queen after losing Prince Philip, her husband of 73 years.
