Wealthy ex-Chelsea star Oscar is ‘trapped in China’ after seeing dream transfer blocked
Former Chelsea star Oscar has been left ‘trapped in China’ as his move to Brazilian side Flamengo was blocked by Shanghai Port FC.
Oscar was one of many stars that moved to China to secure the vast riches that presented themselves over in the Far East, and after earning more than £100million in wages the Brazilian thought his venture was over. Having secured more than enough wealth to last a lifetime, Oscar thought he was set to secure his dream move to Flamengo.
However, even after Oscar was seen posing in the Flamengo kit, Shanghai Port have blocked his move as they did not approve of the deal and refused to sign the necessary paperwork. Desperately wanting to leave China, the Brazilian is now stuck in an awkward situation, and faces prolonging his stay to see out the remainder of his contract.

Oscar jetted off to Brazil for ‘personal reasons’, and Shanghai gave him permission to do so while not knowing the exact reason as to why. Meanwhile, Oscar proceeded to agree personal terms with Flamengo when travelling back to his homeland, and even posed in their kit as he attempted to force a move.
But Shanghai have refused to do business, and Oscar remains tied down to a contract for the time being. Oscar tweeted out an update following the failed move, as he wrote: “I would like to thank everyone for the affection and messages received in the last month, especially from all Flamengo fans.
“I appreciate the interest of Flamengo and the fans, but it was not possible to do so at that moment. I wish the club the best of luck and all the friends I have there for the rest of this season. Thank you all!”

Oscar is still only 30, and was heavily criticised for giving up European football at such a young age to cash-in on the package offered to him in China. In 2017, Oscar signed a deal worth £400,000-a-week, and has since racked up over £100m in career earnings as a result.
The midfielder may have given up Premier League and Champions League football, but he gave an open and honest response to the criticism, and explained why the offer couldn’t be refused in an interview with The Guardian. “Every football player, or every person who works, wants to earn money to help their families,” Oscar said.
“I came from a social background in Brazil that is very poor. We didn’t have anything. This is the fruit of my work and when I earn this, it is because I conquered it. The same way I came here, I will be able to return to Europe. Whatever decision I make, somebody will talk good or bad about it.
“All the foreign players who come here are at a really high level. China has incredible financial power and sometimes makes offers that players can’t refuse.”
