Chelsea to discuss transfer for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang TODAY

Chelsea are set to continue discussions over a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Barcelona and the player’s representatives this afternoon.

The Blues have identified the former Arsenal captain as a potential resolve to their issues up-front – having got rid of both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku already this summer.

Todd Boehly’s side are hopeful of finally being able to strike a deal with the Catalan side for Aubameyang, with talks set to take place today.

The Blues’ shock interest in the ex-Arsenal striker emerged earlier this month as they continued their search for a new number nine.

The departures of Werner and Lukaku have opened the door for a new player to lead their attack line – and Tuchel favours Aubameyang having spent time together at Borussia Dortmund.

The ex-Arsenal star has scored 11 goals in 13 starts since joining the Catalan giants in January but has now fallen down the pecking order following the club’s £42.5million purchase of Robert Lewandowski and the need of cashing in on a few players.

Barcelona have been Europe’s biggest summer spenders despite the club going through a torrid financial crisis and over £1billion in debt.

The Aubameyang discussions will not the first time these two clubs have crossed paths this summer.

Both Barcelona and Chelsea were competed for the signings of Leeds’ Raphinha and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, with the Blues getting to the latter stages of both deals before the players sided with a move to Spain.

As well, the Catalan side have been pursuing Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, having already signed Andreas Christensen, but their pursuits have been to no avail as of yet.

Perhaps the most well-known saga of the window has been Frenkie de Jong’s situation –  which the Blues looked to resolve by bringing him to Stamford Bridge, but a full agreement is yet to be reached.
