Harry and Meghan could be ‘at risk’ on UK trip without protection, expert warns

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be “at risk” if they are not afforded police protection on their visit to the UK, a royal expert has claimed.

The pair announced plans last week to visit the country next month, attending Manchester’s One Young World Summit on September 5 alongside other events in London.

Harry lost his taxpayer-funded security when the couple stepped down as working royals in 2020, meaning that the pair are not entitled to the same police protections as senior royals like the Cambridges.

Ever since Megxit, the couple’s reputation among royalists has taken a hit, which has only been spurred on by their reportedly fractured relationship with the rest of the family – and without protection, royal security analyst Richard Aich warned the pair could face danger.

Aitch told US Weekly: “I would like to think that Harry does actually receive police protection.

“It’s a cost to him but nevertheless, some form, some element of that police oversight. No one seems to actually consider the repercussions.

“What if police protection is not afforded and Harry or Meghan are actually attacked?”

Last June, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) decided the Duke of Sussex is no longer entitled to the “same degree” of security as he was when he was a working royal.

Experts have concerns over the safety of the couple

Harry has previously said it would be unsafe for the young family to return to the UK without police protection, which would have to come out of the Sussexes’ own pockets.

His legal team has claimed in the past that his US security team doesn’t have enough jurisdiction in Britain to fully protect the pair.

Despite the concerns, however, Harry and Meghan did receive high-level police security last time they were in the UK, when the pair visited London for the Queen’s Jubilee in June.

The couple even got to celebrate Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage while on this side of the Atlantic, before returning to their multimillion-dollar mansion in Montecito.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan has been contacted for comment.
