Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has transfer preference with Man Utd ‘holding talks’

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would prefer a move to Chelsea over Manchester United should Barcelona decide to sell him this month.

The former Arsenal star has emerged as one of Erik ten Hag’s primary targets with United desperate to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes in two weeks’ time, though just like with their long-term pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, they’ll need Chelsea to back off to have any hopes of landing him.

The 33-year-old only moved to the Camp Nou in February, but his first team spot is now under threat following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea’s shock interest in the Gabon international emerged earlier this month, with the Blues also in need of a goalscorer after letting both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner leave the club.

Aubameyang spent two seasons playing under Thomas Tuchel at Dortmund, scoring a whopping 79 goals, and is thought to be keen on a reunion with his former boss.

Chelsea are considering using Barcelona target Marcos Alonso as a makeweight in the move to try and reduce the £21million price tag the La Liga giants have reportedly set.

Aubameyang had his Arsenal contract terminated earlier this year having fallen out with manager Mikel Arteta after being stripped of the club captaincy in December.

The goals have been flowing since he moved to Spain, though Barcelona could be forced to sell him in order to register their new signings and pursue other targets, especially with De Jong holding his ground after being told to take a pay cut.
