Riley Higgins property heir and rapper accused of robbing Avalon petrol station with an air rifle

The heir of a multi-millionaire property tycoon who has been photographed alongside Scott Morrison is accused of robbing a petrol station with an air rifle for just $400.

Riley Higgins, 23, son of multi-millionaire Mortgage Choice co-founder Peter Higgins, allegedly walked into the Metro Petroliam Service Station in Avalon on Sydney‘s northern beach just after 4pm on Wednesday and ‘politely’ asked for cash, a court heard.

The armature rapper, who posts videos of his music online, appeared via video link at Manly Local Court on Thursday, facing one charge of robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.

His lawyer Robert Candelori told NewsLocal, his client intends to defend the charges.

Where did the Higgins’ family fortune come from?

Riley Higgins, 23, is the son of Peter Higgins, who helped launch Mortgage Choice in 1992.

The Australian mortgage broking firm has a customer base of more than 350,000 and a residential home loan panel of over 40 lenders nationwide.

The company is estimated to be worth about $244million but Peter Higgins has since sold his stake in the company.

Higgins, who attended the elite $40,000-a-year school in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Scots College, was once photographed with his multimillionaire father alongside former Prime Minster Scott Morrison.

An shaken employee who was captured on CCTV with a weapon pointed in her face claimed the armed robber was very well-mannered.

‘It was terribly surreal…he was awfully polite,’ she told 9News

Another employee said: ‘Is this really happening… are you kidding me,’

Higgins will spend the next two weeks behind bars after he declined to make a release application on Thursday.

‘These are serious matters and of course he needs to be mentally assessed, which we are arranging for that to occur and hopefully we will have more information later,’ Mr Candelori said.

‘But at this stage the matter is defended.’
