WWE legend Shawn Michaels announces the launch of new NXT Europe brand

WWE’s UK brand is expanding – and it’s going to take over Europe in 2023.

NXT UK, which launched in June 2018, was the sports entertainment company’s attempt at competing with the UK market when it comes to producing wrestling in this company.

Since the pandemic, it was housed at BT Sport’s studios in London, and shown weekly on BT’s channel as well as the WWE Network.

But the most recent set of tapings, which would have seen around a month or two’s worth of shows filmed, was cancelled – throwing the future of the brand up in the air, esepcially as talent from the show appeared on the US version of NXT earlier this week, to promote the Worlds Collides special show on September 4.

But it now appears that it’s expanding.

Speaking to Fox News, legendary WWE superstar Shawn Michaels – who essentially runs the NXT and NXT UK brands – said: “Given the success of NXT UK, we felt like it was time to expand beyond that.

“So some of it, like everything with the WWE and NXT, that pipeline is always fluid.

“It’s going to be one of those situations where we’re going to have a lot of representation going into Worlds Collide

“It’s what NXT has always been and that is to be a pipeline for the WWE in support of RAW and SmackDown.

“That process is going to continue.

“We’re going to use the UK talent that we can to go into Worlds Collide and keep that representation out there for as long as we can.

“And as we move things over here in the process, we’ll make all those decisions in 2023 about who’s a part of NXT Europe and who continues to stay here in NXT in hopes of getting a main roster call up.”

While he didn’t specifically state that the NXT UK brand itself is dead, it does appear that the show has hit the end of its run and will return in 2023 as NXT Europe.

There also hasn’t been any concrete announcements on what role the brand and its stars will play during the upcoming Clash at the Castle stadium show in Cardiff on September 3.
