Boy, 4, from Pembrokeshire, found dead in a pond after disappearing while in playing in a sandpit
A four-year-old boy was found dead in a pond after he disappeared while playing in a sandpit near his home.
Ifan Wedros Owen-Jones, from Crymych, Pembrokeshire, who had autism, was described as a ‘happy and healthy child’ who had been ‘enjoying life to the full’.
Emergency services had been called to his home on August 7 after his family became concerned of his whereabouts.
After a search on the grounds that evening, the child’s body was discovered in a pond – he was declared dead a short time later.

A fundraising page has now been set up to cover the costs of the boy’s funeral. It has already raised £6,455 in the last 10 days.
Catrin Cox, who created the GoFundMe page, said: ‘He loved fire trucks and the colour blue he had two older brothers and one younger brother that adored him.’
It said that the lives of Ifan’s parents, Sian and Wedros, had ‘changed forever’ when their son ‘was in a tragic accident and lost his life’.
Responding to the money raised so far the family thanked everyone ‘for all the support already given’ and said they are ‘eternally thankful’ for everyone’s help.

An inquest at Haverfordwest County Hall heard that paramedics had been called to the house and police had been notified at around 5.30pm that Sunday.
Coroner’s officer Hayley Rogers said: ‘It was established that Ifan had been heard playing in a sand pit close to the family home.
‘When Ifan could not be seen, a search of the grounds ensued, and he was found unresponsive in a natural pond.
‘Despite best efforts to resuscitate him, he was declared deceased at 8.40pm.
‘Police have launched a full investigation, with ongoing enquiries.’
Coroner Gareth Lewis adjourned the hearing until a later date which is yet to be decided.
