Boy, 6, dies as glass-coated kite string slits his throat in horror scene

A six-year-old was killed after throat was slit by a glass-coated kite string whilst he rode on his father’s scooter.

Daksh Giri, 6, was celebrating India’s 75th anniversary of independence from Britain when the scooter he was standing on collided with the plastic string covered in a thin layer of glass.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (August 16) with the string fatally wounding the six-year-old’s throat after getting caught around it.

According to The Guardian, Daksh was rushed to hospital in Bihar, eastern India, but later died of his injuries in a situation where deaths involving kite strings that become wrapped around children’s necks are more common than usual.

The danger that glass-covered ropes have demonstrated in recent years means that while their sale is illegal, they’ve also have been banned since 2016 not only due to the threat they pose to humans, but animals too.

Police officers have urged students not to play with glass-coated strings for their own safety.

However, they’ve raised it’s noticeably difficult to enforce these particular rules in a nation that houses over a billion people.

Not only can loose strings hang from buildings or trees after the celebrations, but scooter drivers can suddenly ride through them and could tragically cut their throats.

Freak accidents with kites happen all over the world after a man fell to his death as a kite severed his parachute lines.

Marcelo Nunes Rodrigues, 52, was a paraglider and burned to death following his drop as his friend claimed that a glass-encased kite was responsible for his fatal fall.

Also, earlier this month, a 32-year-old delivery driver died in a road accident after a kite string got stuck in the paddle of his motorcycle near a metro statio.
