Man Utd face having to give their Premier League goal of the month award to ‘own goal’

Manchester United could face the embarrassment of awarding their goal of the month for August to Alexis Mac Allister – after he scored an own goal for Brighton.

Since then, the Red Devils fired a blank as they were humbled 4-0 by Brentford. And Erik ten Hag’s final game in August is the difficult task of facing Liverpool on Monday evening.

However, Liverpool’s defence hasn’t looked its normal self in the opening two weeks of the season – shipping three goals in the process. That might give Ten Hag’s side a bit of hope as they look to win their first points of the season.

However, if United fail to score rather than the embarrassment of handing it to an own goal, they could look further down their squad.

United’s women and U18s sides have both yet to play a competitive fixture this season, but their U21 side have. And the youth have managed to go further than the senior side, scoring twice in their opening two games of the PL2.

Both Charlie Savage and Charlie Wellens could find themselves up for the award if United don’t score against Liverpool.
