‘Give me John Cena at huge WWE show,’ says wrestling-mad BritWres stunner Jessy Maria

For British wrestling host Jessy Maria, WWE’s huge stadium show in Cardiff on September 3 is the culmination of something she’s always dreamed about.

The 26-year-old, who ring announces for many of the UK’s top independent companies, has been a wrestling fan since she was a young child.

And now, with Clash at the Castle on the horizon, Essex-born Jessy has just one wish for the big show.

With WWE promising plenty of shocks and surprises, she exclusively told the Daily Star: “I want John Cena to appear.

“I would probably cry if that happened.

“I’ve always like him, since I was younger – he’s just so cool.

“I’m also so excited to see the women’s tag-team match of Alexa Bliss, Bianca Belair and Asuka vs Bayley Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky.”

There’s no word yet on whether the multi-time champion will appear or not, but he was in Wales just a few weeks ago to appear at ComicCon, and to promote the stadium show.

The show itself has a bigger meaning for Jessy, too.

Firstly, it takes place during her birthday weekend, and second it is something she has always dreamed about.

She recalled: “I was friends with like a group of lads where I used to live years ago, and they were watching it.

“And I was like, ‘what’s this?’

“I was intrigued and kind of got hooked from there.

“It was around SummerSlam 2001, and then from there you go around to someone’s house and we use to just watch it all the time, and then we started playing it on PlayStation.”

In recent years, Jessy has become one of the biggest female voices in the UK when it comes to talking about and promoting wrestling – mainly to her near-12,000 Twitter followers.

She has her own YouTube channel called Just Jessy, a successful Patreon channel, and appears on many podcasts. She also commentates, ring announces and even manages wrestlers at shows.

So how did Jessy go from watching wrestling to being involved with the community?

“Nobody in my personal life wanted to listen to my talking about wrestling any more,” she laughed.

“So I made a video talking about wrestling about four years ago, and it was a bit of a nice thing for me.

“I thought that I was just going to step into the little world of content creating and then yeah, it kind of went from there.

“My plan was to make a little brand anyway, and I was doing it for fun at first but now I can make money from it and do it as a proper thing.

“People actually listened to what I was saying. To be fair, the tattoos and the boobs and whatnot probably does help, too.”

The aforementioned bits that “help” have seen Jessy pursue a successful modelling career which has given her a huge confidence boost.

She explained: “For a very long time when I was younger, I was very shy, I was a very quiet. Something one day just kind of made me think ‘why am I so quiet? Like why?’ I’ve got a voice, I want to show a bit of skin or if I want to look nice like nice then why not?

“It’s nerve-wracking, don’t get me wrong, every time I post a video or if I post a podcast, or if I do something or a show reel I still get a bit nervous.

“I get nervous about it because I’m still putting myself out there and it does take me quite a lot to do it, because you know, the world’s judgmental, isn’t it?”

Putting herself out there has seen Jessy build up a strong fan base and she is not planning on stopping – although she has a dream to do something much bigger outside of the wrestling world.

In fact, it’s a dream that is already on the way, after hosting her first ever sports radio programme earlier this week.

“There is a dream of mine I would love to have which has always been a dream,” she said. “The one thing I’d love to do is be a presenter for the Olympics.

“I love the Olympics – I love athletics.”

Well, the next Olympics is in France in 2024. Let’s hope to see you there, Jessy.
