West Ham ‘enter the transfer race to sign Scott McTominay’ following Casemiro’s arrival at United

West Ham have registered an interest in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay and are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation at Old Trafford.

Their interest comes after United signed Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro on a four-year contract, with the option to extend by an additional year.

Casemiro’s arrival could push McTominay further down the pecking order as Fred and the United newbie have already struck up an effective partnership at international level.

Several Premier League clubs have registered an interest in signing McTominay this summer – with Newcastle, Everton and Leicester all monitoring his situation.

According to 90mins, West Ham have also joined the transfer race to sign the midfielder as David Moyes is eager to bolster his ranks.

The West Ham manager has already signed Flynn Downes but he needs additional cover for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Moyes believes 34-capped Scotland international McTominay is the perfect man for the job and is said to be monitoring his situation at United.

McTominay is at risk of being dropped to the bench following the arrival of Casemiro at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen and Fred are also at risk of being dropped. They will need to continue to fight for their places in the starting XI.

The two midfielders produced particularly ineffective performances in west London last weekend.

Eriksen was deployed far higher up the pitch against Brighton, almost as a second striker, before being played in a much deeper midfield role at Brentford, and it is apparent that Ten Hag is not yet sure how to get the best out of his new man.

Additionally, Donny Van de Beek has only played a full 90 minutes at United on three occasions in the Premier League despite scoring on his debut. However, he could be afforded a place in United’s starting XI against Liverpool.

James Garner has also played a role in training exercises this week – causing speculation as to whether the youngster will feature against Liverpool despite Ten Hag admitting he would consider selling the midfielder this summer.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder had been expected to play a role under the Dutchman given how scant their midfield options are, and was impressive as he featured 44 times for Nottingham Forest on their way to promotion last season.
