Disabled and bedridden Texas woman, 57, dies after living in ‘filthy conditions’ with three children
A disabled and bedridden woman in Texas has died after she was found in ‘filthy conditions’ in her home and her three adult children were arrested after the shocking discovery.
Patricia Martinez, 57, died on Saturday in a hospital in San Antonio – the seventh largest city in the country – after officials from Bexar County rescued her from her home on Thursday, according to a press release from the local sheriff’s office on Monday.
When deputies rendered to the woman’s aid last week after being notified by Adult Protective Services (APS), the incapacitated mother was discovered with an insect outbreak in her room and mold growing on her body. She was also suffering from kidney failure due to the neglect.
‘She was found wearing an adult diaper packed with feces in a dried state where it was physically causing infections in other parts of her body,’ Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told News 4 San Antonio on Friday.
Adult Protective Services, which responds to reports of known or suspected abuse or neglect, reported Martinez’s deteriorating condition after they grew worried about ‘a steep decline her level of health,’ the sheriff added.
The victim’s children: Oscar Dominguez, 37; Roxanna Carrero, 24; and Pedro Luis Carrero, 18, were all arrested and charged with injury to a disabled person with serious bodily injury.
The crime is classified as a first-degree felony in Texas, Salazar confirmed.
Patricia Martinez, 57, died on Saturday after being found at her home on Caballo Canyon in San Antonio, Texas, on Thursday, lying in ‘filthy conditions’. The woman was living with an insect infestation in her room and mold was also growing on her body
Martinez was living with her three children: Oscar Dominguez, 37; Roxanna Carrero, 24; and Pedro Luis Carrero, 18; at the home for a year and a half before her death last week. They were her caregivers and were in charge of providing their mother with medicine, meals, and health appointments, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar

All three of Martinez’s children lived with their mother at their family home and were her caregivers, as the sheriff said ‘it appeared none of them were doing what they were supposed to be doing.’
They were responsible to manage and book her medical appointments, provide her medication, feeding and washing her along other types of care.
‘It’s likely she’s going to pay with her life for their neglect,’ Salazar further told KENS5. ‘God have mercy on their souls when their time comes.’
Bond for the three suspects is set at $85,000 each, as they remain locked up in the Bexar County Jail.
Salazar said he remained unsure if charges would be elevated to murder as an investigation into the woman’s death is ongoing.
A neighbor of the family told news outlets that the mother’s children had assault rifles and shields when deputies came to rescue their mother on Thursday (pictured)
Martinez was collecting government benefits prior to her death, Salazar disclosed, and it remains unknown if her children were budgeting the cash to pay for their mother’s health issues.
‘They had assault rifles and they had shields,’ an anonymous neighbor on Caballo Canyon told KHOU after deputies raided the family’s home on Thursday. ‘The police officers saw the person open up the garage. They put the gun toward him and told him to raise his hands so that way they could arrest him.’
Stanley Cooper, who lives right next to Martinez’s family, said the woman and her children had lived in the house for roughly a year and a half.
‘Never would have known something like that was going on,’ Cooper told KHOU. ‘It’s just unbelievable.’
