Pedro Neto ran Arsenal ragged with MOTM display showing why Mikel Arteta wants him

Arsenal target Pedro Neto has already lit-up the Emirates – with a player-of-the-match performance in a 2-1 win for Wolves.

The winger, 22, ran the Gunners ragged back in November 2020 in a display which shows exactly why they are now reportedly after him before the transfer window closes next week. He gave his side the lead on their travels, turning home after Leander Dendocker’s headed had bounced back off the bar.

Arsenal drew level through Gabriel soon after, but Neto played a significant role in getting Wolves back in front before half-time. He’d carried the ball forward and forced a save with his shot from outside the box, from which Daniel Podence scored the rebound.

That was enough for Wolves to take all three points, but Neto continued to torment right-back Hector Bellerin in the second half. He got him booked in the 69th minute for pulling back his shirt.

And the versatile Portugal international even swapped from left to right to also cause a headache for Kieran Tierney, who too saw yellow for a cynical foul on him in stoppage time.

Neto was chosen for the man-of-the-match award by Sky Sports in a game which was overshadowed by Raul Jimenez’s head injury after he’d nastily collided with David Luiz.

Is Neto better than any of Arteta’s current options? Let us know in the comments section.

Fast forward 21 months and he’s now believed to be Mikel Arteta‘s No 1 transfer priority. However, the deal looks a tricky one to complete with Neto signing a five-year contract only just this year and Wolves not looking to sell.

He’s flattered by the interest nonetheless, recently telling The Times: “I always like to hear this sort of stuff but I’m focused on my job here because I’m feeling very good here.

“The things you hear makes you work even more, it’s good for you and your mentality to know people know your value.”
