Casemiro asked why he swapped Real Madrid to play Europa League football with Man Utd

Casemiro’s ultimate response to why he swapped Champions League football for Manchester United demonstrates the gulf in class between the sides.

The Red Devils parted ways with £70million for the Brazilian earlier this month as Erik ten Hag looked to shore up his midfield. However, some were baffled as to why Casemiro would swap Real Madrid for the struggling Red Devils.

When asked about not playing in the Champions League, Casemiro quickly quipped back to EPSN: “Well… I already have five, don’t I?” At Madrid, Casemiro was part of a Madrid team that dominated Europe in the 2010s.

After signing for United, Casemiro said: “The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting.

“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new team-mates in the coming years.

“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.”
