Chelsea and Leicester ‘reach verbal agreement over a deal for Wesley Fofana’

Chelsea and Leicester have reportedly reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Wesley Fofana.

The two clubs have been in talks for several weeks and have now agreed a deal for the 21-year-old which will make him the most expensive defender in world football, according to RMC Sport.

The fee will eclipse the £80m which Manchester United paid to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester in 2019.

Chelsea made their fourth bid for Fofana and have finally managed to persuade the Foxes to sell him.

Leicester rebuffed the Blues’ previous offer of £60million with an extra £10million in add ons.

Fofana has been dropped by Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers and made to train with the club’s Under 21s after he missed training to try and force a move to Stamford Bridge.

He missed the defeat to Southampton last weekend and won’t be part of the match day squad for their visit to Chelsea on Saturday.

Rodgers has been critical of the 21-year-old’s behaviour and said it’s been in stark contrast to the way Harry Maguire behaved during his impending transfer to Manchester United in 2019.

Chelsea are also set to further boost their midfield with the signing of Russian star Arsen Zakharyan from Dynamo Moscow.

The Blues are set to trigger the 19-year-old’s £12.6million release clause and bring one of Russia’s most talented young players to West London.

Zakharyan scored nine goals and registered nine assists in 34 appearances for Dynamo last season, and has already been linked with a number of high-profile clubs.

Chelsea remain keen on signing Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
