Man Utd’s Europa League opponents based in area where ‘all travel is advised against’

Manchester United‘s Europa League opponents Sheriff Tiraspol are based in an area where all travel is advised against.

Following a historic term in the Champions League last season, defeating Shakhtar Donetsk and eventual winners Real Madrid in the group stage, the Moldovan outfit qualified for Europe by claiming a 20th Super Liga crown.

Unable to secure a second successive season amongst the continent’s most elite, The Yellow-Blacks qualified for the Europa League by beating Armenian side Pyunik on penalties. But any Man Utd fans planning on making the lengthy trip may want to take a glance at advice from the UK government as Tiraspol is currently on No10’s red list for travel

Located in the unofficial breakaway state of Transnistria, bordering the west side of Ukraine, the government officials are currently advising against travelling to the city of Tiraspol as Russia’s unprovoked invasion enters the six-month mark.

No10’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office would recommend reading their travel advice before embarking on a visit to Moldova but would strongly endorse that people do not travel to Transnistria.

In their 144-year history, United are yet to face a side from either Moldova or Cyprus and tickets are expected to be in high demand for the midweek trips across Europe.
