‘Dismal Liz Truss non-plan for energy bills puts money into pockets of the rich’
When rocketing energy bills are the burning issue terrifying Britain, Liz Truss lacking a detailed answer is a betrayal of the country before she has even entered Downing Street.
The putative PM’s earlier dismissal of help as “handouts” exposed a frightening ideological inability to grasp and respond to a catastrophe requiring a Covid-style response from the Government.
Instead she thrashes around, toying with tax tinkers that would put most money into the pockets of high earners, destroy the finances of once comfortable middle income households and abandon the low paid, poorest and pensioners to eat or heat this winter.
The danger we detail today to hospitals and schools is matched in other public services and all manner of private businesses.
Freezing energy prices isn’t free but it is fair. Truss reveals she’ll divide to misrule in true Tory style.

Stink of failure
Dumping sewage into rivers and seas is disgusting, a stain on the water industry and our country.
The disclosure that 870 sewage discharge pipes do not have permits, and a lack of capacity is the reason four out of five large works spew out their filth, raises legal and investment questions.
Conservative MPs voting against tougher restrictions and cuts to the Environment Agency betrayed contempt for people who suffer the awful consequences.
Britain’s supposed to be a first world country so let’s start acting like one and stop fouling on our own doorstep.
Slack leadership
Four extra bank holidays would reward Britain’s deprived grafters.
Unfortunately the Liz Truss who put her name to a Tory book smearing Britons as the “worst idlers in the world” is no friend of workers so enjoy your rest while you can.
