Crystal Palace submit £27m offer to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea

Crystal Palace have made a £27m bid for Chelsea‘s Conor Gallagher as they step up their interest in signing the midfielder on a permanent basis, according to reports.

Gallagher spent last season on loan at Palace, but returned to his parent club at the start of the summer to pursue a regular first-team place at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Eagles have not given up hope of bringing Gallagher back to Selhurst Park, and have now submitted a formal offer to Chelsea, as reported by The Times.

The 22-year-old flourished under Patrick Vieira last term, registering eight goals and three assists to help Palace to a mid-table finish.

He was voted the club’s Player of the Year at the end of the campaign, and his performances also earned him international honours.

Gallagher was handed his England debut against San Marino last November, and has picked up three further caps since then.

He has regularly been called up by England over the past nine months, and may have felt that he could still remain part of Southgate’s plans heading into the World Cup by returning to Chelsea.

However, Gallagher has endured a difficult start to the season with the Blues. He was used as a late substitute in both of their opening two games of the campaign.

Thomas Tuchel then named Gallagher in his starting line-up against Leeds, but Chelsea were well beaten at Elland Road, and the young midfielder was hauled off just after the hour mark.

He retained his place in the side against Leicester on Saturday, but was shown a red card inside the opening 30 minutes for two cynical fouls.

Therefore, Gallagher may now feel that a move away could benefit him if he wants to book his place on the plane for Qatar.

Palace have made their interest clear ahead of Thursday’s deadline, while Newcastle and Everton are also believed to be keen on acquiring his services.
