Ange Postecoglou is hailed as the best hire in world football as Celtic thrash Dundee 9-0

Ange Postecoglou has been hailed as possibly the best hire in world football after his Celtic team thrashed Dundee United 9-0 to continue the stellar form that saw them win the Scottish Premiership during his first season in charge.

The victory was Celtic’s biggest away win in the club’s 134-year history and marked a 37-game unbeaten streak for the Aussie manager.

Celtic stands atop the Scottish Premier League ladder with 15 points from five matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding just one.

Praise for Postecoglou and the wonders he’s worked at the Scottish club has been coming thick and fast, but one former Hoops star believed the Aussie might be ‘slightly disappointed’ with the 9-0 result.

Jordan Gardner, a European football executive, took to Twitter to announce: ‘I’m not sure there’s been a better coaching hire recently in global football than ange postecoglou at celtic.’

Ramon Vega, who spent one season with the Celtic, believes bringing the Aussie to Glasgow was exactly what the club needed.

‘This Ange Postecoglou manager at @CelticFC is for sure one of the best things the Club has done for a long while,’ Vega remarked on Twitter.

‘I thought Celtic were going to go one better than Liverpool on Saturday and actually make it 10-0,’ Daily Mail columnist and former Celtic star Kris Commons wrote.

‘When Brendan Rodgers first arrived at Celtic, I can vividly remember him telling us that he wanted to beat a team 10-0. Celtic were leading 9-0 yesterday and still had 10 minutes left at the end to make it 10-0.

‘In his heart of hearts, Ange Postecoglou will probably be slightly disappointed they didn’t quite manage it.’

Following the match against Dundee, Postecoglou explained why his men didn’t relent and kept pushing for goals up until the final whistle.

‘It’s about the intent and we don’t want to be led by the scoreboard or whatever the circumstances of the game are,’ Postecoglou said.

‘With respect to whether it’s the first or the last minute, or whether we’re winning or not, we want to play at a certain tempo and intensity.’

‘It’s not just about winning a game of football — it’s about us setting our own standards within that.’

The performance was just another demonstration of how well Celtic are adapting to the Aussie manager’s style, which saw him win titles in the A-League and J-League.

Postecoglou’s detractors are long gone and the list of fans are growing.

Next weekend, Celtic will face their old foes and biggest rivals for the Scottish title Rangers in the first Old Firm contest of the season at Parkhead.

Then, just three days later, Real Madrid will be coming to Glasgow for their first Champions League group stage.
