Everton fan so excited to see Anthony Gordon he drops a kid to give goalscorer a hug

A young Everton fan ended up on the pitch at Elland Road after being dropped by another supporter who was attempting to hug Anthony Gordon following the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Leeds United.

Once the final whistle had gone, the 21-year-old went over to the away supporters having removed his shirt. And as a man holding a young child grabbed the shirt before leaning in to give Gordon a hug, the youngster fell over the barricade and onto the pitch.

Gordon and a steward quickly attended to the child and helped him back into the stands. It is not clear whether the man was the child’s father or not.

As an academy graduate who joined the club at the age of 11, Gordon is beloved by Everton fans and notched his second goal in as many games in the draw against Leeds. The winger gave his side the lead when he nutmegged Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier after being played through by Alex Iwobi.

However, Everton could not hold on to their lead as Luis Sinisterra scored his first Premier League goal to ensure both sides came away with a point. Speaking after the match, Everton boss Frank Lampard insisted he was “very confident” Gordon would be staying at Goodison Park despite heavy interest from Chelsea.

“Anthony is too important a player,” Lampard said. “He has shown his worth in the last two games. It is too late. He is going to be special.

“In the bigger picture, he has an affiliation with the fans. It is a process. Can we build around that? The interest in him is because he is a top player and why we are so keen to keep him.

“You saw the reasons why [we think so highly of him] in the last two games. He is our player. He has come through.

“He is a very good player and will get better and better. Adding goals is the next step and the hardest step. He is a special player for me. I am delighted.”
