Ex-Premier League ace Robbie Savage reveals he’s ‘never bought’ a pint in his life
Robbie Savage does not know the price of a pint – because he has ‘never bought one’.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Derby County midfielder will likely have to concern himself with the price of an icy cold beer if he is to keep the punters happy at Macclesfield FC. However, his naivety when it comes to one of the most important match day purchases is not fuelled by a dislike of alcohol.
Savage has previously recounted his early football days when he used to consume several large tipples of wine the night before a big match. Yet, when it comes to your draught beverages, Savage’s mind goes relatively blank, as he revealed during an analysis of the most expensive pints in football.

“I don’t know what a pint costs, I’ve never bought one,” the former Welsh international said to 606 Football Phone In. “Never, never, I’ve never got one.”
This understandably confused his punditry partner in crime Chris Sutton who simply replied “really?” before moving onto the next subject. Savage’s pint purchasing virginity would have likely shocked former players and pundits alike.
However, he has previously admitted that he was partial to a very cheeky glass or bottle of wine the night before a match. He even stated that when he was a young player at Leicester City, he even went as far as hiding bottles in his bag so he could drink in his hotel room the night before.

“Some friends and I would go through eight to 12 bottles of white wine every Thursday night,” Savage said in his autobiography. “On Fridays I’d have a few glasses at home.
“Or if we were away, I’d bury a bottle in my kit bag and drink it secretly in my room. It was stupid but because I was playing out of my skin and I’m superstitious and have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), I was scared to change it.”
Considering the evident surprise in Sutton’s voice, it would be no surprise if the former Chelsea man dragged him to the closest bar within their vicinity. After-all, if Savage does not know the price of a pint, does that mean he has never bought a drink for anybody?
