UFC star Darren Till was ‘arrested for drink driving in Sweden in July’

UFC star Darren Till was arrested for drink driving back in July after a breathalyser test found him three times over the legal limit, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has been making regular trips to Sweden over the past 12 months to train alongside undefeated welterweight Khamzat Chimaev, who is due to face Nate Diaz at UFC 279 next month.

It has now emerged that during his time in the country last month, he was stopped by police while in a silver Audi after driving at high speed, as reported by Swedish newspaper Expressen.

The report claims that Till was driving with a female companion, and he initially stated that she was driving the car. However, he later admitted that he was the one at the wheel.

Till insisted that he had only drunk ‘one or two beers’ at a restaurant, but the police officer reported that the Brit was ‘noticeably intoxicated’, and a subsequent test reportedly showed an alcohol blood concentration of 0.6 millilitres per thousand, while the legal limit is 0.2 millilitres per thousand.

The police report also claimed that Till repeatedly told authorities that being charged would ruin his career when he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

This is not the first time that Till has got himself into trouble with the law as he was also arrested in 2019 in Tenerife for trashing a hotel room and stealing a taxi.

He was later charged, along with four other people that he was with, and was made to pay a fine of around £10,000.

Till has also had a torrid time inside the octagon in recent years, losing four of his last five fights.

The run started with a welterweight title defeat against Tyron Woodley in 2018, and he has been unable to get himself back in contention to challenge for UFC gold since.

He was due to fight at UFC London last month against Jack Hermansson, but he withdrew from the bout with an unspecified injury, and it is currently unknown when he will fight again.
