Under-pressure Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that he fears the sack after their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
The result leaves the West Midlands side 19th in the league, after suffering four losses in their opening five games.
With a home clash against free-scoring Manchester City on the horizon, Gerrard acknowledges that his position could come under threat.

When asked if he had any concerns over his future, Gerrard said in his post-match press conference: ‘Of course I do.
‘I am being honest and critical of myself. I will do my job the best I can do. I will step forward and take responsibility as best I can.
‘But if I stood here and said I wasn’t concerned you’d look at me as if I was from a different planet.’
Their opponents at the weekend are Manchester City, who put five past Nottingham Forest on Wednesday – including a 26 minute hat-trick from Erling Haaland.

Gerrard said after the loss at the Emirates, that messages aren’t getting across to players.
He said: ‘We showed character and commitment and we were hanging on at times but if we keep getting important moments in key areas we will continue to concede goals.

Gerrard moved to Villa Park last November, after guiding Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership trophy in ten years.
