F1 fans shocked as David Croft and Ted Kravitz argue live on air during Dutch GP practice
Friday certainly isn’t the most exciting day of an F1 weekend, but there was plenty going on off track as the Dutch Grand Prix meeting got underway at Zandvoort.
There was fresh intrigue in the driver market as Oscar Piastri’s move from Alpine to McLaren was confirmed following the intervention of the sport’s Contract Recognition Board (CRB). That saw speculation about Pierre Gasly leaving AlphaTauri for Alpine ramp up even further.
And unexpectedly, there was drama in the commentary box too as Sky Sports F1 duo David Croft, the channel’s lead commentator, and pitlane reporter Ted Kravtiz had an on-air spat during the second practice session.

Croft turned to Kravitz during a lull in track action, eager to learn more about the state of affairs at Alpine. However, Kravitz, given there was just one car on track, thought it was the best time to take a commercial break.
At which point, Croft said: “Oh right, OK, you’re producing the show then, Ted?”
Kravitz replied: “The only car on track is a Williams and I could go on and on [about Alpine], but I understood we were going for a break.”
Croft said: “I can’t see the rest of the track, nor can I see a track map at the moment.”
The pair then talked over each other for a few uncomfortable seconds before Croft added: “Ted, Ted, Ted, just go for it now, tell us about Alpine.”

But Kravitz wasn’t having any of it and declined, prompting Croft to admit defeat, adding: “Ted, I’ll come back to you in a moment.”
F1 fans were quick to take to social media to discuss the awkward exchange, with one tweeting: “F1’s Ted and Crofty having a genuine argument on live TV.”
Another added: “Incredibly awkward exchange on #SkyF1 just now. Crofty throws to Ted, Ted told it’s break time due to lack of cars on track, tries to throw back & Crofty argues. Says ‘Ted’ about 15 times while Ted refuses to give his update.”
Meanwhile, WTF1 tweeted: “If the Piastri drama wasn’t enough Crofty and Ted are now having an argument live on air.”
One fan suggested it may have simply been a case of crossed wires, posting: “To be fair to them, it does seem that Ted was told an ad break was pending. Clearly Crofty was told something different!”
