Premier League trio have the world’s most costly squads – including managerless Chelsea
Premier League sides Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea have the most expensive squads in football.
A new report has found that the trio have a collective value costing a whopping £2.5billion.
Following the closure of the transfer window, the CIES Football Observatory has tallied up the numbers and listed clubs n Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues in accordance with the transfer fees paid to assemble their squads.

The English clubs are all at the top of the rankings. Pep Guardiola’s City is at the top of the rankings with a squad cost of £917m, which includes potential add-ons.
The Citizens are followed by United, with their side costing £863m in total. Thereafter Chelsea’s squad cost a cool £759m. After which, Paris Saint-Germain sit in fourth place with £730m. Then it’s Liverpool in fourth with £669m before Real Madrid and Barcelona come below that.
Indeed, Los Blancos are in sixth place with a spend of £621m, while their arch-rivals Barcelona are seventh with £539m. Premier League as north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham take eighth and ninth places with £460m and £447m, respectively., before Atletico Madrid, with their spend of £432m, finalise the top ten.
City’s Jack Grealish is the most expensive member of his side, costing £100m from Aston Villa last summer. Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias cost £68m and £61m respectively.
United captain Harry Maguire is the second costliest at £80m – while his club and international team-mate Jadon Sancho is just behind him at £76.5m.
Teams in Germany and Italy do not make the top 10 of the list.
