talkSPORT investigate Trevor Sinclair’s Queen tweet as listeners threaten boycott

talkSPORT are investigating Trevor Sinclair’s extraordinary tweet about the Queen shortly after her death on Thursday.

The former England international, who regularly appears on talkSPORT as a pundit, asked why “black and brown” people should mourn Her Majesty’s passing as racism had been “allowed racism to thrive” over the course of her 70-year reign as monarch.

The post sparked an immediate backlash with many listeners threatening to boycott talkSPORT if they failed to take any action against Sinclair, prompting the company to issue a statement about the post on Thursday night.

Sinclair has since deleted his Twitter account.

“He has to be sacked. Failure to sack him will cost you a huge number of listeners and sponsors. Don’t p*ss about with investigations, and suspensions,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another said: “You should sack him for that comment, disgraceful.”

Fellow talkSPORT regular and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan slammed Sinclair, telling his colleague: “Trev. I’m really not sure that is an appropriate thought, let alone tweet.

“The country has lost a very significant person and respect and value should be the over riding sentiments not division!”

In 2018, Sinclair was ditched from his job as a BBC pundit after he racially abused a police officer who had arrested him for drink-driving. He was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for the public order offence and handed a 20-month driving ban.

Referencing this, one Twitter user said: “Funny that he accuses the Queen of allowing racism to thrive when, between the two of them, he’s the only one to have been found guilty of racism.”
