‘Non-binary aliens’ reveal what they look like without intense makeup and prosthetics

A couple who shook the internet with their otherworldly appearance reveals what they look like without all of the makeup and prosthetics.

Designers Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran are the people behind the Instagram account @matieresfecales, which translates to fecal matter in English.

They refer to themselves as “non-binary aliens” and upload photos of themselves with extreme makeup, outlandish prosthetics and out-there fashion choices.

The heels of their feet are often warped into skin-covered scythes, their waists are whittled down and they wear a variety of different eye contacts.

Now they have revealed what they look like without it all.

Steven was born in Montreal and Hannah was born in New Zealand but the pair met at a fashion school in the Canadian city.

The pair eventually created Fecal Matter to help with their identity and self-expression

Now based in Paris, the duo’s account boasts 740,000 followers and is where they post photos designed to make people feel uncomfortable.

The pair have been dating for eight years now and have shared that they’re still learning to love themselves.

“Learning to love the human behind the alien,” they wrote in an Instagram caption.

Hannah and Steven question what it means to be human and have said they want to “kill gender norms”.

Their goal is to fight against conventions, beauty standards and binary society and want to encourage other oppressed people to express themselves freely.

The designers have both experienced oppression, Hannah felt that the school uniform imposed on her had limited her and stopped her from developing her own identity.

Steven, for his part, suffered from racism and discrimination as a non-binary person of colour from an early age and they have both felt stifled by religion.

“I, Steven Raj, grew up Mormon. That religion tormented and abused my soul. It’s healing to finally have the power to deconstruct the same symbols that once tortured me,” they said.

“Like so many of you, I grew up in a really poor, oppressive and abusive environment. I was scared for my life every day. The low-income apartment I grew up in was really terrible and was even infested with cockroaches.

The duo are constantly pushing the envelope with their looks

“I still remember laying awake at night dreaming of being a successful artist one day while roaches were crawling over my 11-year-old body. I just kept hustling every day to make my dreams come to life.

“It’s tough being a person of colour that challenges gender and conformity within this society. I’ve been hurt physically and mentally so many times by hate because of who I am but I won’t give up fighting for what I believe in.”

Now the duo are living the life they have always dreamed of as they express themselves freely.

They added: “We used to live in fear but showing one another unconditional love and support gave us enough courage to live our authentic truth, together.”
