But, speaking on a recent episode of her Playing a Round podcast, Paige opened up about how attending a Milwaukee Brewers MLB game to throw the first pitch had resulted in a torrent of critical comments about her weight.

“My worst fear was going up there and just going viral for how horrible my pitch would be, and I ended up actually throwing a decent pitch; it was a little high,” she explained.

“[But] I didn’t go viral for throwing a bad pitch, I went viral for looking fat and ugly… Skinny jeans don’t make you look skinny, I found that out the hard way.

“People were absolutely roasting me… I’ve been called fat here and there once or twice, just people being trolls, but not at this level. People were like, ‘girl you’re chunky, you don’t look good’.”

The golfing star has spoken candidly in the past about her struggles with her mental health, even admitting that physical threats had resulted in her taking the decision to restart therapy. But, she emphasised that any recent change to her appearance is the result of her recently improved positive mental state.

“Weirdly enough, I am the happiest I feel like I have ever been, and that’s probably why I’ve gained a little weight,” she added.

Paige then went ahead and read out some of the horrific comments she had received.

“‘She looks horrendous, you know the reality is somewhere between the sexiest woman alive and being a fat washed-up whale’… ‘Amazing what makeup and screen filters can do’,” she read, selecting a few.

“I will say that I handled it not well,” she added, before joking: “I think I could use this opportunity to switch my entire career around and be the face of body positivity. Right now, I prefer being called a fat pig to being called a whore.

“I think this is a real issue because it’s a huge topic among women about having body issues, and being body shamed and having body insecurities, but when I reached out to a lot of guys and they were sharing their stories, they also have the same type of issues and they struggle as well.”
