Richard Keys leads outrage after Marcus Rashford was named Premier League player of the month

Marcus Rashford has been awarded the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for September, despite only playing twice, leaving several fans baffled.

The England forward scored twice and assisted two more in September, and beat the likes of fellow nominees Philip Billing, Kevin De Bruyne, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Jacob Ramsey and Alex Iwobi to the award.

But United fans have been left in uproar after their own club named summer arrival Christian Eriksen player of the month, after a string of strong performances was capped with victory over Arsenal last time out.

A number of fans took to Twitter to point out the lack of consistency, questioning how Rashford could be the league’s best, but not his club’s

One fan wrote: ‘Eriksen won United’s POTM but Rashford wins this? Iwobi was robbed, he ran games start to finish in September.’

Another added: ‘Mad how Eriksen wins the clubs POTM award but Rashford wins the Premier League one.’

A third echoed the sentiment with the simple statement: ‘Not even united player of the month.’

And a fourth fan felt for the Danish midfielder, writing: ‘Eriksen robbed.’

And there are those who question why it was given to Rashford in the first place, irrespective of Eriksen’s form this season, ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland who has ten goals to his name already.

One outraged football fan wrote: ‘Marcus Rashford won EPL player of the month ahead of Haaland? Nbs daylight robbery.’

A second then questioned how De Bruyne has never won the award, writing: ‘Marcus Rashford has beaten Kevin De Bruyne to the #PL September POTM award.

‘De Bruyne has still never won the award.’

And beIN Sports anchor Richard Keys added: ‘Marcus Rashford – PoM – for scoring 2 goals and recording 2 assists? They’re having a laugh.’

But for the many who have questioned why it was not given to Eriksen, there have also been many quick to congratulate the England forward, noting that he has begun to find his best form of late.

One Twitter user was clearly supportive of the award, writing: ‘Yes Marcus Rashford, happy for you lad…

‘Hopefully this boosts your confidence… Now let’s get fit and destroy city defence.’

A second support wrote: ‘The Rashford redemption season is here! I hope Martial becomes fit, and they both would do wonders in the PL this season.’

And a third suggested the best was still yet to come by adding: ‘So pleased to see Marcus Rashford win POTM for September.

‘Definitely deserved with his two goals & two assists in two games & a good confidence boost sign of him coming back to his best form.’.

Yet there are still those who question why it was given to Rashford in the first place, irrespective of Eriksen’s form this season, ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland who has ten goals to his name already.
