Micah Richards snubbed by Lewis Hamilton in F1 paddock despite ‘being friends’

Micah Richards joked that his “friend” Lewis Hamilton snubbed him in the F1 paddock at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Richards was out in Asia last week ahead of Sunday’s (October 2) race at Marina Bay Street Circuit along with Jamie Redknapp and Alan Carr, with the trio filming for hit Sky series ‘A League of Their Own’.

They spent time with Red Bull, being put through their F1 paces by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. All three donned the team’s official gear, which led to a seemingly awkward moment between Richards and his fellow Brit Hamilton.

The Mercedes man walked straight past the ALOTO crew despite efforts to get his attention by Richards, who told Sky Sports afterwards: “Hamilton blanked me before. He seen me in the Red Bull gear and walked straight past me. I thought we were friends.”

The footie pundit has previously admitted to not knowing a lot about F1 but is improving his knowledge having attended the Abu Dhabi season finale last year and the British GP in July.

The trio had spent time with the Red Bull team and Hamilton’s rival Max Verstappen

He wasn’t able to stay in Singapore to watch the action because he was on punditry duties for Sky as Manchester City humiliated rivals Manchester United 6-3 and Leeds drew 0-0 with Aston Villa on Super Sunday.

Hamilton, meanwhile, endured a frustrating race weekend. Having narrowly missed out on a first pole position of the season and started third on the grid, he ultimately finished a disappointing ninth.

The seven-time world champion spent a large majority of the race stuck behind the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz who had passed him at the start, before he crashed into the barrier and damaged his front wing on lap 33 after attacking the seventh corner too fiercely.

Hamilton took to his team radio and admitted: “I am so sorry about that guys. I f***** it up big time.” He was then overtaken by Verstappen in the dying embers of the race, which lasted the maximum two-hour duration after rain delays.
