Incredible unseen moment Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff had chance meeting goes viral

Incredible footage of football legends Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff having a chance meeting has gone viral.

Both men have passed away in recent years, Maradona in November 2020 and Cruyff four years earlier in March 2016, but their legacies live on. And a touching moment between them resurfaced as their former sides Napoli and Ajax did battle in the Champions League this week.

The short clip shows Maradona walking down the stand of a stadium at a game past Cruyff, who he’d not seen beside him in the aisle seat. The Dutchman placed his hand on the Argentine’s shoulder and he turned around.

They then shared an embrace and a quick word before Maradona continued shuffling through the crowd. Having been uploaded to Twitter, it’s been viewed more than 10million times.

Fans heart-warmingly suggested they would be meeting once again in heaven on Tuesday (October 4) night to watch Ajax vs Napoli. Three-time Ballon d’Or winner Cruyff is synonymous with the Dutch club having graduated from their academy and later managed them.

Joint FIFA Player of the 20th Century Maradona, meanwhile, spent seven hugely successful years in Italy. And it was who would have been cheering the loudest.

After Ajax had taken an early lead through Mohammed Kudus, Napoli went into half-time 3-1 up thanks to goals from Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Piotr Zielinski.

The visitors then doubled their tally in the second half through Raspadori again, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Simeone, with Dusan Tadic sent off for the hosts in their 6-1 defeat.
