Scary footage emerges showing tractor coming out of nowhere at Japanese GP

Terrifying footage of a tractor appearing from nowhere on the track at the Japanese Grand Prix has sparked outrage among F1 fans.

This morning’s race was soon halted amid torrential rain at Suzuka. Initially, the safety car was deployed after Carlos Sainz spun and speared into a barrier, ending his day on the spot, before the red flag was thrown.

However, before the race was curtailed, a tractor was sent out onto the track to retrieve Sainz’s Ferrari. Pierre Gasly, who had been into the pits to have a piece of advertising board removed from under the front wing of his AlphaTauri, was catching up to the pack when he came across the tractor at high speed.

The Frenchman schemed over his team radio “I could have f***ing killed myself.”

The incident brought back memories of the crash which claimed the life of Jules Bianchi at the same race in similar conditions in 2014. The Manor driver suffered devastating head injuries after colliding with a tractor which was retrieving another car and passed away the following year.

Cars directly behind the safety also passed the tractor and footage from Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren has been circulated on social media showing the vehicle appearing out of nowhere in the mist.

“So it was IN the track, not beside. That’s so dangerous,” tweeted one fan while another asked: “The FIA going to fine themselves for lack of safety?”

Another shocked fan commented: “It just appears out of nowhere, Jesus.”

A fourth tweeted: “That’s absolutely insane: A whole damn truck driving the opposite direction of traffic in the middle of an extreme downpour!”

A shortened grand prix was finally run with Max Verstappen winning the race and the world championship.
