Man Utd fans slam ‘ridiculous’ Scott McTominay after gifting Chelsea ‘stupid’ penalty
Manchester United fans were left fuming at Scott McTominay after he gave away a late penalty against Chelsea.
The Scotsman was brought on for Christian Eriksen with ten minutes remaining and the game still 0-0. But in a moment of madness, the substitute decided to grab Armando Broja with both hands while a corner was being whipped in, resulting in the Chelsea striker going down.
Referee Stuart Attwell pointed to the spot as Jorginho converted the penalty in trademark fashion to give the home side the lead. And despite new signing Casemiro equalising in stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw, the United faithful did not hold back from criticising McTominay for costing them all three points.

One furious United fan wrote on Twitter: “Scott McTominay. How do you grab someone and hang on like that for so long in the penalty box? That was STUPID!!! Has clearly cost Man Utd the game.”
Another tweeted: “I’ll never forgive this app for trying to convince me it was a good idea for McTominay to start over Casemiro.”
A third added: “What on earth is McTominay doing there?? Ridiculous,” while another said: “Can Ten Hag demote Mctominay to the U18’s as well… tried his best to sabotage his teams hard work.”

The reaction on social media to his midfield partner Casemiro was the polar opposite as the Brazilian proved the hero. The £70million former Real Madrid veteran scored his first goal for the Red Devils by towering above Chelsea’s defenders and heading in Luke Shaw’s cross emphatically.
Goal-line technology ruled that the ball had crossed the line before goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga managed to gain control of it. And wild celebrations ensued in the away end at Stamford Bridge as Casemiro let out a roar in front of the travelling fans.
