Cristiano Ronaldo all smiles back in Man Utd training after being dropped vs Chelsea

Cristiano Ronaldo has kissed and made up with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo has been welcomed back into the first team squad and could even start when United take on FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday (October 27) night.

Ronaldo and Ten Hag had a spectacular fall out last week when the Portuguese superstar refused to go on as a substitute against Tottenham and stormed to the changing rooms before the final whistle.

No-nonsense Ten Hag axed Ronaldo from his squad for the trip to Chelsea last weekend and fined him a £1m in wages. Ronaldo spent the weekend training alone but has been in constant dialogue with Ten Hag in the past few days and has apologised for his behaviour.

United insist the clear-the-air talks have been positive, with Ronaldo keen to return to the fold and see his side succeed, irrespective of what role Ten Hag gives him. Ronaldo trained with the squad this morning (October 25) and could be seen laughing and joking with his team-mates.

It’s understood Ronaldo and Ten Hag have agreed to put their differences to one side for the good of the team, having clashed several times this season.

But it remains to be seen if Ronaldo still has a future at Old Trafford beyond the World Cup, which starts in Qatar in less than a month’s time.

Ronaldo has eight months of his £500,000-a-week deal left to run and if Ten Hag decides to cut his losses on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, United could decide to pay him off.

Ten Hag is a stickler for discipline and wanted to punish Ronaldo in a bid to send a strong message to the rest of his stars.

He said recently: “It is more important to have the right culture and standards and values. The longer term is always more important and in the end that will bring you into the right position.”

Ronaldo had taken to social media to explain himself following his public strop and he said: “As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed.

“I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment get’s the best of us.

“Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again.”
