Liverpool among four Premier League teams with ‘zero free slots’ to play postponed games

Liverpool are among the Premier League sides who have no slots to fulfil postponed games.

The Champions League draw has reportedly created fixture chaos as all four English sides are involved in the knockout stages.

Manchester City’s clash with Tottenham and the Reds’ trip to Chelsea in the league was supposed to be played in September but the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II saw that it had to be rescheduled.

The clubs found out their opposition in the round of 16 of the Champions League this week, with the first knockout game set to be played in February.

But the scheduling means that there is no available spot before the end of the season for each game to be played.

Liverpool will face their Champions League final foes Real Madrid in the next round, in what’s arguably the trickiest game of the lot.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will have to overcome Serie A champions AC Milan to get into the quarterfinals.

The scheduling for the games means that the Reds will host Real Madrid at Anfield on February 21 and then return for the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 15.

Spurs play their game with Milan on February 14 and host the Italian side in north London on March 8.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham also face a potential fixture headache

Chelsea play Borussia Dortmund on February 15 and March 7 and Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions face RB Leipzig on February 22 and March 14.

It is believed that some opportunities could open up later in the season but it’s dependent on how far each side gets in FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The problem is exacerbated with the World Cup being played over the winter rather than its normal summer spot, meaning even less opportunity to fill in games.
