Prince Harry ‘battling Netflix’ in desperate bid to get documentary delayed

The Netflix documentary in which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were set to take viewers behind the scenes at the Invictus Games, was in the middle of being filmed when the late Queen passed away in September this year.

As a result the film crew were on the spot when the Duke and Duchess were in the UK for her late majesty’s funeral, although cameras were banned from the Windsor estate.

But now the prince is reportedly clashing with Netflix bosses over the premier date for the £113million series.

The Duke of Sussex reportedly wants its first episode delayed until after Christmas — but the streaming giant is keen to air it next month.

It’s not clear what Netflix’s current plans are. Netflix executives are reportedly concerned about streaming the potentially explosive fifth series of the Crown this month, and the Harry and Meghan documentary immediately afterwards.

According to The Sun, Harry is very keen that the series coincides with his much-anticipated memoir Spare – due in bookshops on January 10.

Deadline reports that the Duke and Duchess might welcome any delay to the series, because it would offer an opportunity to edit its content to reflect recent changes.

Speaking about the docuseries in a recent interview with Variety magazine, Meghan said: “It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story.” She has described the series as a “love story” and a “rom-com”.

There’s been speculation that Netflix might exploit the Harry and Meghan documentary to bring the royal story up to date after series five of The Crown comes to an end.

But royal commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti said: “I certainly think it would be undesirable for Meghan and Harry to have recent events described in The Crown, I know producers said they aren’t keen to go right up to the present day, but maybe that’s why they are so keen on this Netflix series, it might complete their extra piece of the jigsaw puzzle in them telling their story.”

Representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex failed to respond to the Daily Star when asked for comment.
