Football fans hit out at Welsh branches of Primark for prominently displaying ENGLAND World Cup kit

Football fans hit out at Welsh branches of Primark for prominently displaying ENGLAND’S World Cup kit but none for Wales with tournament kick-off just days away

  • Primark store in Wrexham has a prominent display of England World Cup gear
  • Fans outraged that Welsh stores don’t have merchandise for their home team
  • Wales national team has only made it to the World Cup once before – in 1958
  • The squad, captained by Gareth Bale, will play England on November 29

Shoppers have blasted Primark for selling England World Cup kit in their Welsh stores while having nothing for Wales, despite the team qualifying for the tournament for the first time in 64 years.

The England tops, t-shirts and beanies were given pride of place in the Primark store in Wrexham, north-east Wales but there was nothing on show for Gareth Bale‘s team.

Primark stores from Cardiff and Swansea to Wrexham and Llandudno have been left with no Wales World Cup gear – as the company blamed supply issues.

Frustrated Red Dragon fans called on Primark to ‘sort it out’ with the first Wales and England matches in Qatar later this month.

A Wales supporter asked: ‘Why are you selling these in Welsh stores?’ and questioned if they knew Wales was in the World Cup too.

Primark blamed supply issues for there only being England World Cup merchandise in their Welsh stores

One social media suggested the Llandudno store should be ‘annexed’ for not having any Wales-branded clothing available, while another asked ‘where’s the Wales stock?’

Another said there was ‘nothing Welsh at all’ in their Swansea and Cardiff stores. Shoppers found red bobble hats with Cymru written on them – but nothing for the World Cup.

It is only the second time that Wales has ever qualified for the tournament, 64 years after their previous appearance in 1958- the only World Cup to have featured all four of the UK’s home nations.

The team came second in their group but lost to the eventual champions Brazil in the quarterfinals, with Pelé scoring his first World Cup goal to take his team to a 1-0 victory.

Primark blamed supply issues and reassured Wales fans that they would be able to purchase Welsh World Cup kit when it’s finally in stock

The clothing chain said Welsh World Cup t-shirts (pictured), long-sleeved t-shirts, beanies and Christmas jumpers will soon be available

For this year’s winter World Cup in Qatar, the Welsh national team are in group B along with the USA, Iran and England, who they will play on November 29.

Primark promised that Wales fans will be able to purchase Welsh World Cup Christmas jumpers, t-shirts and hats when they’re finally in stock.

A spokesperson for the clothing store continued: ‘We’re delighted to offer our customers the chance to pick up official World Cup merchandise, including t-shirts, jumpers and hats, at affordable prices in our stores across all markets – this includes Welsh merchandise, endorsed by The Football Association of Wales.

‘Unfortunately due to the timings of the playoffs, we’ve experienced some delays in the delivery of our Welsh stock, however these are due into stores soon – fans can expect a Welsh World Cup Christmas jumper among other items, including tees, long sleeve t-shirts and beanie hats.’
