And now in a recent post on social media, Joan revealed exactly why she doesn’t recommend fasting.

She opened up while sharing a side-by-side snap of her progress over the years.

The guru said: “I don’t want to offend people who are attached to fasting but I do have to weigh in here in diet culture.

“I have to focus on weight loss vs improving one’s muscle: fat ratio.”

She often inspires followers with her journey

Joan explained how people should focus on their health and not the scary realities of carrying excess body fat.

She added: “Having a waist over 35” put me at risk of cardiovascular disease and worsened my inflammatory markers.

“BUT the really BIG wins have been from gaining muscle AND losing body fat combined.

“It’s also from getting my joint mobility back, meaning I’m stronger at an increased range of motion in my joints.”

She revealed why she doesn’t usually like fasting

And when recommending other methods instead of fasting, Joan told people to load up on protein.

She explained: “1. Eat a serving of protein about every 3 hours or 5 x day.

“2. Follow a training program that encourages progressive overload and building a foundation of strength.

“3. Fuel your training adequately. While things can get complicated, this gives you a good running start.”

Joan finished the post by assuring fans she didn’t starve herself skinny or avoid entire food groups.

She concluded: “I didn’t have a ‘good’ foods ‘bad’ foods approach. I didn’t do circuit workouts.”

Since she shared her advice, her post racked up over 86,000 likes in two days.

One wrote: “Good advice. The ‘fitness gurus’ often hide their disordered eating behind dieting terms.”
