Stephen Lawrence killer David Norris left scarred in prison attack after being caught using phone

A racist killer of black teenager Stephen Lawrence has been left scarred for life after he was attacked by a blade-wielding inmate in prison.

Murderer David Norris, 46, was reportedly found profusely bleeding from his face after he was shivved by two inmates in HMP Dartmoor, in Exeter, on Sunday.

He is said to have been slashed from his ‘forehead to his chin’ before prison officers intervened, dragging him to a safe area as he ‘howled in agony’.

Norris was cornered outside his cell by two burglars wielding shivs (or shanks) – self-made knives made in prison made from objects like toothbrushes and razorblades.

The two prisoners then attacked him while other inmates looked-out while the pre-planned attack on racist murder Norris took place at just after 8.30am on Sunday, a source at Dartmoor told The Sun.

He was then shipped to hospital for treatment – and doctors say he may end up permanently disfigured due to his injuries.

After receiving stitches to his wounds he was kept in hospital overnight and he will reportedly return to the prison at some time today.

The attack is reportedly not linked to Stephen Lawrence’s murder in 1993 but instead related to an earlier argument with fellow inmates. Police are now investigating the attack.

It was said that Norris ‘didn’t stand a chance’ in the fight where he wa badly cut up leaving ‘a lot of blood’.

The two attackers were then reportedly placed into segregation within the prison.

This comes just weeks after Norris he was caught concealing an illegal  contraband smartphone in his rear passage.

Justice Secretary Brandon Lewis had said he was ‘furious’ that the thug who murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence had managed to break prison rules and obtain a phone.

Norris took a sickening selfie from his cell on Dartmoor’s E wing, which houses supposedly well-behaved inmates.

Stephen’s father said in late September that was ‘disgusted’ that one of his son’s murderers sent selfies to friends from his cell, adding that jail staff should be sacked over the scandal.

Neville Lawrence said his son would be ‘turning in his grave’ if he knew about the ‘luxury life’ being enjoyed by Norris behind bars. He told ITV News London: ‘He is living a better life than I am and I haven’t done anything wrong.’

Following the tip-off from the Mail about Norris’s unlawful use of a smartphone, the killer is facing an uncertain future and could be transferred to a tougher jail.

His HTC smartphone was being examined by experts to establish who Norris was in contact with from his ‘luxury’ cell. There have been fears a corrupt member of staff at Dartmoor may have smuggled the phone into the jail, in return for a payment of up to £3,000.

Norris was then placed into solitary confinement, pending the police inquiries, and his hopes of winning early parole appear to have ended.

In a foul-mouthed WhatsApp rant this month, the unrepentant murderer launched a vile attack on former justice secretary Dominic Raab, who blocked his bid to move to an open prison in May.

The racist murder – nicknamed ‘Nozza’ by inmates – said: ‘Dom Raab your [sic] f***** c*** cos the Nozza is defo home in 2 [years] and High Court now agrees.’

He brazenly posted a picture of himself behind bars wearing Top Gun-style aviator sunglasses and with his TV and Xbox games console in the background.

A whistleblower said Norris bragged to fellow inmates that he was the gang member who stabbed Stephen to death. If true, this is a significant revelation because police are still uncertain who wielded the knife.

A Prison Service spokesman told The Sun: ‘A prisoner at HMP Dartmoor is being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries following an assault by two prisoners.

‘We are unable to comment further while police investigate.’

Five men were initially arrested over the racist murder of 18-year-old A-Level student Stephen, who was stabbed to death in Eltham, south-east London, in April 1993.

Two of his killers – Norris and Gary Dobson, now 47 – were brought to justice after a belated forensic breakthrough after an acclaimed campaign for justice by the Mail. Both were given life sentences in 2012 after being found guilty of murder.

Former Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector Clive Driscoll, who led the investigation which resulted in the pair being convicted, praised the Mail’s investigation, including the revelation about the alleged cell confession by Norris.

In a statement, he said: ‘I hope all opportunities are explored after these articles. It could be useful to review what is already known against the comments if substantiated. I thank the Daily Mail for its continuous work in highlighting some of the weaknesses in our system. We can only move forward if mistakes or loopholes are exposed and then professionally dealt with.’

The judge in the Stephen Lawrence murder trial suggested he would have doubled Dobson and Norris’s minimum sentence of had the law allowed.

Mr Justice Treacy told the killer pair in 2012 they would each have faced at least 30 years if they had been adults committing the same crime on a ‘blameless and helpless’ victim in modern times.

In the event, Dobson was given at least 15 years and two months behind bars while Norris was told he must serve at least 14 years and three months before being considered for release.

Neither man, said the judge, had shown the ‘slightest regret or remorse’. He added: ‘The high level of public interest in this case is at least in part a reflection of the abhorrence felt by right-thinking people at the nature of this crime.’
