Dad tracks down sick paedo who kidnapped his teen daughter outside nightclub

A man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl after spotting her outside a nightclub was tracked down hours later my the victim’s father.

Michael Owen, 34, approached the 16-year-old girl outside a club in Leigh, Greater Manchester at 5am on March 13, 2022, saying he was “just helping her” as she was drunk.

He then got her into a taxi and told the driver to take them to his home on Bridgewater Street in Hindley.

The girl then remembers waking up in Owen’s bed partially clothed and screaming to go home.

Giving evidence to Manchester Crown Court via video link, she said someone then began banging on Owen’s front door.

It turned out this was her father, who had got Owen’s address from the taxi driver after he had collected the girls phone, which she had dropped in the taxi and then answered her Dad’s call.

The court heard that Owen then called the police to report the banging.

In the meantime, the girl’s father was also calling the police to report his daughter being held against her will.

Police arrived minutes later and Owen was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

He pleaded guilty to the kidnap and assault of the 16-year-old, receiving seven years and six months of jail time at Manchester Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Chris Preston from Wigan CID said: “We are very pleased with today’s result. Owen is a dangerous individual who preyed on this young girl for his own use, under the guise of being helpful and looking out for her.

“We are extremely grateful to the victim and her family, for the support they have given GMP throughout this investigation, which has led to this successful conviction. We would encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual assault, to dial 999 and speak to one of our team. We will listen to you and we will do everything we can to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.”
