Mexico authorities recover three tortured bodies on two Acapulco beaches

Three tortured bodies wash ashore in full view of horrified tourists on two popular tourist beaches at Acapulco within 24 hours

  • Three bodies washed up at two beaches in the Mexican Pacific coast resort city of Acapulco on Saturday and Sunday
  • The first two bodies were discovered by beachgoers who were visiting Condesa Beach on Saturday

The bodies of three tortured men washed up on the shores of two beaches in the Mexican state of Guerrero during a span of 24 hours over the weekend, shocking beachgoers in the resort town of Acapulco.

Authorities responded to a 911 call around noon Saturday when the bodies of two men were found by sunbathers on the shores of Condesa Beach at the Calinda Hotel in the resort town of Acapulco.

One of the men’s bodies was strapped to a cement anchor. The other body was found lying face down on the sand.

The third victim washed ashore a little over a mile way at Icacos Beach on Sunday morning.

Acapulco police said the man had been previously shot before the killer or killers dumped his body in the ocean.

The three bodies, local media outlets reported, were initially spotted floating November 9, near one of the beaches. However, police canvassing the area where unable to find the bodies.

The names of all three victims have not been released by authorities. 

Despite the gruesome findings, authorities kept the beaches open for the beachgoers.

Acapulco was once the top destination for the Hollywood elite, but it has lost its luster throughout the years due to cartel violence that has engulfed Mexico.

As of August, the Pacific coast beach resort town had registered 110.5 homicides per 100,000, placing it second in the world behind the Mexican border city of Tijuana (138/100,00), according to data published by Statista.

At least 213 murders were reported in Acapulco during the first quarter of the year, government data shows. In comparison, 442 people were murdered in all of 2021.

Mexico registered 23,351 homicides through the first nine months of 2022 after 33,308 people were killed in 2021. In comparison, 34,554 killings were reported in 2020 following 34,690 murders in 2019.
