UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis stripped off in cage because his ‘balls was hot’

UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis once took his shorts off after a bout because “his balls was hot”.

Lewis had just squared off with Alexander Volkov in October 2018 at UFC 229 – the American had been on the back foot for the entirety of the clash. And with Volkov a shoo-in to win on points, Lewis swung for the fences, dropping Volkov with just 10 seconds left.

And after his Rocky-esque comeback, Lewis dropped his shorts as he celebrated around the octagon. A bemused Joe Rogan asked him why he took his trunks off, Lewis responded: “My balls was hot.”

Lewis is back in action on Saturday evening as he squares off with Sergey Spivak at UFC Fight Night.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Lewis said: “This year has not been my year, so it be good if I can keep the [APEX win] streak going. This year hasn’t been my year, and I want to end the year off with a bang, and it’d be great to do it here in Vegas.”

“This year I trained probably the most I’ve ever trained for both my last fight, and it didn’t go my way. I did everything the right way and it still didn’t go my way. I don’t know.”

Lewis’ opponent, Spivac, is relatively unknown, but he possesses a 6-3 record, and he’s won his last two bouts via knockout.

The American added: “When I heard that it was him I said ‘Okay, that’s fine.’ It didn’t matter. I don’t care who they give me. I just wanted to fight anyone. It didn’t matter. Especially after my last fight, it didn’t matter who it would’ve been, how quick it would’ve been.

“I would’ve preferred it would’ve been quicker than this week, but I didn’t care. I think he’s a good opponent.”
