BREAKING Five dead and 18 injured in horror gay nightclub shooting as suspect in hospital
A mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado has left 18 people injured with five others confirmed to have died.
Police have said that a suspect is in custody and is currently being held in a local hospital.
A spokesperson refused to confirm how serious the injuries amongst the survivors are and also said it was too early to establish a motive.
They added that the tragic number of casualties is not confirmed and could still rise.
It comes after horrifying clips online showed cops racing to the scene at Club Q in Colorado Springs with multiple ambulances on site to take victims to hospital.
Officers first received a call alerting them to the active shooter just before midnight on Saturday, November 19.
Local reporter Brian Sherrod said it was “the most emergency responders” he had “ever seen at one scene”.
The venue is an “adult-orientated gay and lesbian” club that hosts theme nights including “karaoke and drag shows”.
Tragically, the horrific death toll comes on the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is marked every year on November 20 to pay tribute to anyone murdered as a result of transphobia.
